The Board of Directors met Wednesday evening in a closed-door session to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 situation on our upcoming events. After much consideration, and in consultation with local health authorities, as well as our event partners and their administrations, the Board of Directors voted to cancel Color Guard Championships and Percussion & Winds Championships for the 2020 season.
Given the development of this situation, the Board decided to give the Catawba Ridge contest an additional twenty-four hours before a final decision was made. Based on information from local health agencies, the decision was made earlier this afternoon to cancel all remaining events.
While we are deeply saddened to have to cancel these important events, the health and well-being of our performers, staff, and spectators is of the utmost importance. No decision of this magnitude is made without an understanding of the last effects it will have on an organization such as ours.
“It’s important to remember that this is an unprecedented situation for our activity,” remarked CWEA President Cody Crawford. “Our job as a Board of Directors is to ensure the stability of the organization as a whole to ensure that we can continue to provide opportunities in the indoor Pageantry Arts for years to come.”
“It’s regrettable, but it’s the right decision for us at this time,” remarked Cody Crawford.
The entire Board of Directors would like to congratulate the performers of CWEA on an outstanding season and an incredible display of talent! While this may be the end of the season for you, know that you will continue to hold a special place within the family of the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss
